San Juan, Puerto Rico – A picture is worth a thousand words and when Polaroid’s were concerned Andy Warhol was a master.
Celebrating this iconic pop artist and his legacy, Walter Otero Contemporary Art opens the first solo exhibition of the artist in Puerto Rico, Thursday March 19, 2015 at 8:00pm at the contemporary art space located in Puerta de Tierra, San Juan. Presenting a selection of never before seen Polaroid’s by Warhol in Puerto Rico.
Andy Warhol known as one of the artists that defined art and culture in the 20th century, was the pioneer in embracing popular culture and the commercial aspect of art. Born August 6th, 1928, Warhol was a painter, silkscreen maker, filmmaker, photographer and one of the well-‐known artists in the Pop Art movement. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became extremely famous for his multifaceted work in his many artistic endeavors.
Considered as a pioneer in photography was one of the first to use the Polaroid SX70 as a tool for his art. From 1970 until 1987, Warhol took thousands of photos with his Polaroid camera most of which are rarely seen by the public and purposely served as the starting point for many of his famous works.
The exhibition “Polaroids by Andy Warhol” includes several of his self-‐portraits and celebrities from the art world, fashion and Hollywood, like Jean-‐Michel Basquiat, Dianne Von Furstenberg, Sylvester Stallone among others. It will remain open until May 15th 2015 and a fantastic opportunity for the public to see these images by the master of Pop Art.
