Now? Now! (Main Art Exhibition) Radamés ”Juni” Figueroa at Biennial of the Americas
July 14, 2015
The central exhibition of the 2015 Biennial of the Americas, will create a surprising, dynamic experience, capturing the atmosphere of life in the Western Hemisphere today. The artists in the exhibition reflect the complexity of our time – its pervasive technologies, its emergent forms of creativity and social and political engagement, its ever-changing conceptions of identity, and its interdependent, shifting economies. The exhibition will raise important questions about the relationships between North, South and Central America and the Caribbean, highlighting hot-button issues and events, like recent protests in the US, political reforms in Mexico and the changing relations between the US and Cuba. Alive with images and sounds, the exhibition will be a compressed experience of our time.

Since graffiti first began seeping into the fine art scene in the late 1970s in New York, the challenge of translating such a vivid and site-specific practice into an art object to sit within a white cube gallery has been of central concern to artists.

Introducing Gamaliel Rodriguez Modern Painters- September 14, 2014
“They’re places that don’t exist,” says Gamaliel Rodriguez of the shadowy structures he renders in monochrome ballpoint, sharpie, and acrylic. “I just invented them, and kind of created my own world.” Rodriguez, who was born in Puerto Rico and now splits his time between the island and New York, approaches these works, from his recent “Figures” series, from an imaginative angle.

GATES OF HORN AND IVORY - Angel Otero - ARTPHAIRE REVIEW
One of the greatest satisfactions of being a collector is buying a work by an artist before they’ve been discovered by the larger art market. Such was the case for those who were lucky enough to snag a painting by the 32-year-old Puerto Rican artist Angel Otero at Art Basel earlier this year.

LA BIENAL: HERE IS WHERE WE JUMP
Review at ARTFORUM
Museo del Barrio
June 12- January 4, 2014
To follow the subtle spatial logic of El Museo del Barrio’s current exhibition, the seventh edition of a biennial formerly known as “The (S) Files,” one begins with a bombastic gold-leaf portrait of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, and ends with an impressive pile of paint chips. Alex Nuñez’s ODB, 2012, creates a playful tension between fine art and popular culture, Byzantine icons and hip-hop bravura.

Hands-On Artist Arnaldo Roche on His Recent Blue Period - MODERN PAINTERS
To generate its heat, art in its making requires a measure of friction. It would seem that Arnaldo Roche, perhaps the preeminent artist of Puerto Rico since the 1980s, takes this dictum literally: He rubs his paintings into being, as one might rub a headstone or a façade.

Gamaliel Rodríguez at Museum of Art, Puerto Rico
Exhibition Gamaliel Rodriguez: Fallout
(Juan Carlos Lopez - Curator MAPR)SEPTEMBER 12, 2013
All the works that make up this exhibition have similiar features. They are landscapes of industrial architecture, most viewed from above, in which we can see no human, no living creature of any kind. Curiously, the one work that does not fit the pattern here is of two soldiers wearing gas masks and carrying something like a missile or tank spewing some sort of gas. The works are drawings, though they don't look like it, and that they are done with an indelible-ink marker and highly diluted acrylic. This fact, which might pass for a simple technical note, is a distinctive characteristic of the work of Gamaliel Rodriguez. All his drawings, no matter what the technique, have the look of an engraving or a photograph. His work is the result of impeccable virtuosity. MORE INFO CLICK HERE >>
